Lyrics

Procrastinator

I’ve got a pie to bake (procrastinate it)/ I’ve got a hand to shake (procrastinate it)/ I’ve got a record to make (procrastinate it)/ I’ve got a lot at stake (procrastinate it)/ I’ve got a house to clean (procrastinate it)/ I’ve got a real big dream (procrastinate it)/ I’m late for work (procrastinate it)/ My boss is a jerk (procrastinate it)/ I’ve got something to find (procrastinate it)/ It’s got me in a bind (procrastinate it)/ Got a bottle of wine (procrastinate it)/ And had a real good time (procrastinating)/ I’ve got a big boat, gotta be my own captain/ Gotta stay true no matter what happens/ The wind is high/ The waves are lappin’/ Got a land of dreams I’ve been mappin’/ Someone’s at the door (procrastinate it)/ Hear em knock some more (procrastinate it)/ Phone is ringing off the hook (procrastinate it)/ I’ll let that puppy cook (procrastinate it)/ Nothin’ to wear (procrastinate it)/ I’ve gotta wash my hair (procrastinate it)/ I’m in my pj’s (procrastinate it)/ What can I say? (I procrastinated)/ Got a big boat, gotta be my own captain/ Gotta stay true no matter what happens/ Wind is high/ Waves are lappin’/ Got a land of dreams I’ve been mappin’/ You probably think I’m inconsiderate/ But that ain’t it/ You don’t know how I feel/ I’m overwhelmed/ That’s for real/ I’m still laying where I fell/ No more water in my well/ Try to fill it cup by cup/ But it’s still not adding up/ I’m wounded, but you don’t know/ ‘Cos I never let it show/ And the fear meant to distract/ Like a monkey on my back/ I’m gettin’ tired of all that/ Nothing to do but make it happen/ That means you too (make it happen)/ Stuck ‘tween a rock (make it happen)/ Some kind of block to make it happen/ Got a big boat, gotta be my own captain/ Gotta stay true no matter what happens/ Wind is high/ Waves are lappin’/ Got a land of dreams I’ve been mappin’./

A Different Life

Maybe in another time/ Maybe in a different life/ Maybe in another place/ Your heart met with mine/ And if we made a different choice/ If we went anohter way/ Right instead of left/ Where would we be today?/ Do I recognize the colors in your eyes?/ I’ve seen them all before/ I’ve got them memorized/ The tone of your voice cuts right through like knives/ I think I knew you in a different life/ Now, I don’t mean to sound like I’ve got some kind of crutch/ You’re like a long lost friend that I’ve missed so much/ I long to talk to you/ To be close to you/ To linger in the seconds where we break through/ Do I recognize the colors in your eyes?/ I’ve seen them all before/ I’ve got them memorized/ The tone of your voice cuts right through like knives/ I think I knew you in a different life/ I know, I know, I know that you fit nowhere in my life/ So I’ll go, I’ll go, I’ll go you go your way I’ll go mine/ But I know, I know, I know your soul your soul I do/ When I woke up that day/ If I decided not to go/ I wouldn’t have met you/ And then I’d never know/ That I recognize the colors in your eyes/ I’ve seen them all before/ I’ve got them memorized/ The tone of your voice cuts right through like knives/ I think I knew you in a different life./

Travelin’ Towards a Dream

We’re headed further on up the road/ Up to the land of the summer snow/ Where the black birds fly in the aspen grove/ Trumpets are blazing/ The sky is falling/ The storms are raging/ The voices calling to me/ Batten the hatches/ Put on your glasses/ ‘Cos what’s ahead you’re going to want to see/ Travelin’ towards a dream/ We’re headed further on down the street/ Down to the land of the sticky sweet/ Where the dogwoods bloom/ And you can smell those magnolia trees/ Trumpets are blazing/ The sky is falling/ The storms are raging/ The voices calling to me/ Batten the hatches/ Put on your glasses/ ‘Cos what’s ahead you’re going to want to see/ Travelin’ towards a dream/ And I don’t know what the future holds/ No I don’t know what the future holds/ All I know is that it’s time/ And I wont find peace of mind unless I go, go, go/ Trumpets are blazing/ The sky is falling/ The storms are raging/ The voices calling to me/ Batten the hatches/ Put on your glasses/ ‘Cos what’s ahead you’re going to want to see/ Travelin’ towards a dream.

Wild

Pure and real like a child/ Love me love me love me but leave me wild/ We can howl/ We can run/ Love me love me love me in the sun/ Bodies like roots/ And hair like vines/ Love me love me love me intertwine/ I’m the moon/ And you’re the sea/ Love me love me love me but leave me free/ Scratch the veneer/ My soul twin/ Love me love me love me skin to skin/ Tear down the wall/ And open the door/ Love me love me love me and love me more.

Anchor Town

I just pulled in to Anchor Town/ I feel a little beaten down/ It’s never easy to say goodbye/ To a friend for life/ My eyes are poppin’ out my head/ It’s getting cold and the streets are dead/ I guess that I’ll just stay here for the night/ Turn out the light/ And I can’t sleep here/ And I can’t sleep anywhere/ And I know I can’t go home because I’m looking half damn crazy/ Baby, are you even waiting for me?/ I just rolled in to Anchor Town/ I feel like I’m on foreign ground/ I’ve been working in the bush now for a spell/ It’s just as well/ I feel a little out of whack/ The whole damn world is about to crack/ The simple life has got it’s hooks in me/ But it’s time to pay the piper I see/ ‘Cos I can’t sleep here/ And I can’t sleep anywhere/ And I know I can’t go home/ Because I’m looking half damn crazy/ Baby, are you even waiting for me?/ Every freedom has it’s price/ Every freedom comes with vice/ Even freedom is over-rated sometimes/ And I can’t sleep here/ And I can’t sleep anywhere/ And I know I can’t go home/ ‘Cos I’m looking half damn crazy/ Oh baby, are you even waiting for me?

Lesley’s Song

It was a happy accident that wasn’t an accident at all/ It was a twist of fate so beautiful/ we had our backs against the wall/ Now look at us shining bright/ No one can steal our light again/ ‘Cos life is hard but love bends and bends/ It was a universal intermission/ The kind that shatters walls without permission/ It was a miracle disguised as disaster/ Clothed in secrets and covered in plaster/ But look at us shining bright/ No one can steal our light again/ ‘Cos life is hard but love bends and bends and bends.

Be Love

I want to be love for you/ I want to do the things you crave/ I want to bring you the fire you need/ And be your resting place/ I want to be love for you/ I want to shine back in your eyes/ walk through all your mazes/ Learn your different phases/ Fall into your sweet surprise/ I want to be love/ I’m talking real love/ Not only to see love or receive love/ I want to be love/ I want to be love for you/ I want to burn slow and strong/ I want to learn all your beautiful words so I can sing along/ I want to be love for you/ I want to meet your where you are/ Learn a different language/ ‘Til your fears all vanquish/ Catch you with my strong strong heart/ I want to be love/ I’m talking real love/ Not only to see love or receive love/ I want to be love/ I want to be love for you/ Not just some shiny little decoy/ Write it in a letter until you feel all better/ I want to give to you my joy/ I want to be love/ I’m talking real love/ Not only to see love or receive love/ I want to be love.

Western Sky

I’m headed out west to another place with amber and yellow and purple shades/ Air is clean and the sky’s so big/ Going to the rocky mountains/ Stuck in the city/ Concrete walls/ Hear myself think/ Hear myself talk/ Put me on a train/ Never be the same/ Working so hard in vain and I wanna go home/ I wanna go home /I wanna go home

Appalachian Blues

Mountains and caves/ Rock and creeks/ Wildflowers growing in the weeds/ Mountain music/ Blackberry wine/ A place of spirits both dark and divine/ Sunday morning prayers start rising just like the steeples on the hills/ You can almost see ’em scattered all across the horizon/ Colors of red and orange and green/ And when everyone starts singing it’s something to see/ My old baby/ He was from the Kentucky hills/ Mama was sweet and his daddy paid the bills/ Grew up running wild/ Shooting guns and raising hell/ Looked right in my eyes and said “I don’t have nothing to sell”/ I lost myself on that long country drive/ Forgot myself when I looked into your eyes/ Nothing seemed to matter when I was loving you/ But it wasn’t too long I was singing those Appalachian blues/ Forgotten treasures/ Diamonds in the rough growing in the hollers/ Rising from the dust/ Rooted in the mountains/ The oldest ones you’ll ever see/ Sweet dusty Appalachia well you’re good enough for me

The Itch

I got an itch I can’t scratch/ It’s driving me crazy/ It’s driving me mad/ This town is like a poison to my soul/ I got my bags packed/ I got my belly fed/ I got a little bit of music and a little bit of bread/ I can’t wait to finally get on the road/ Tongues are wagging/ Gossip and lies/ All people do is criticize/ This town don’t do nothing but make me blue/ I got some show boots/ I got a new suit/ I got a little bit of loving and a little bit of loot/ Everything else well it kinda depends on you/ Oh, Carolina, Arkansas, Tennessee/ If I go out there and find ya/ Would you spend your money to see me? / I’ll play on your porch or in your room/ I wasn’t born with a silver spoon/ Tell me where you want me and that’s where I’m gonna go/ Cause I got some wishes/ I got some dreams/ Yah I got a whole lot of things/ I got a hankerin’ to tell you what I know/ Oh, Carolina/ Arkansas, Tennessee/ If I go out there and find ya/ Would you spend your money to see me? / Cause I got an itch I can’t scratch/ It’s driving me crazy/ It’s driving me mad/ Something tells me I wasn’t born to be here/ I gotta get going/ I gotta start trying/ I gotta start living before I start dying/ I’m gonna catch the next boat outta here/ Oh, Carolina/ Arkansas, Tennessee/ If I go out there and find ya/ Would you spend your money to see me?

Montana

I got a man on my heart/ I’m headed out west/ I got my boots and my scarf/ My bullet proof vest/ I got saffron in the car/ stone in my chest/ I got twenty hours to go/ I’m not stopping to rest/ I wrote 500 letters I’ll probably never send/ And I’m headed to Montana where I aint ever been/ I thought for sure you’d call me on the telephone/ But don’t bother calling now, baby, I won’t be home/ I’ve been love’s martyr one too many times/ Tied myself to the cross and taken a beating for your crimes/ But now I’m smarter and stronger too/ And I’ll be raising from the dead and coming back to haunt you/ I’m no angel/ I’m too human for that/ Just look at my scars and the way my eyes are stacked/ I’m headed to Montana to fill my money sack/ Don’t bother looking for me now, baby, I won’t be back/ I’m going I’m going I’m going aint never coming back/ I’m going I’m going I’m going I’m going aint never turning back/ Headed in/ Sunset over the hill/ Tears fill my eyes/ Liberated from a life that kills/ Looking ahead/ I’m not turning back in case I turn into a pillar of salt/ Don’t want to disappear like that/ I really love you baby/ I’ll never be the same/ And you know I always will/ That aint ever gonna change/ But I’m headed to Montana before I go insane/ If you’re happy without me, baby, don’t even speak my name

Bird Song

Gonna sing you a song that the birds don’t even know/ Gonna write you a letter in my heart/ It’s gonna drip so sweet and slow from my  mouth to your soul/ It’s the kind of song you can’t stop once it starts/ Deeper than the ocean and endless as the sky/ Clearer than a church bell tone/ It’s the kind of song you and I can sing until we die/ It’s a song that the birds don’t even know/ There’s a heart in my chest and it whispers in my ear and it tells me all the things I need to know/ Then a melody so sweet starts coming out of me/ It’s the kind of song angels don’t know/ Deeper than the ocean and endless at the sky/ Clearer than a church bell tone/ It’s the kind of song you and I can sing until we die/ It’s a song that the birds don’t even know/ Darlin if we ever part/ It will surely break my heart/ But the song will still ring purer than gold/ If you ever have a doubt about the love we share now/ You can listen to the song the birds don’t know/ Deeper than the ocean and endless as the sky/ /Clearer than a church bell tone/ It’s the kind of song you and I can sing until we die/ It’s a song the birds don’t even know/ A song that the birds don’t even know

Stoney Ground

I’ve gotta protect myself from possession/ Cause you are dangerous I learned/ And some things are too wet to burn/ Our love’s a seed blown by the wind/ I tried my very best to be your friend/ We’ll never make roots to go down/ Not while I am here on stoney ground/ And when I think of you, what I think of/ Is a very beautiful mirage shaped just like love/ You are a seed blown by the wind/ I tried my very best to be your friend/ You’ll never make roots to go down/ Not while you are there on stoney ground/ I wish I could just fix you/ I would kiss you until you felt the sun/ I wish you would embrace me too/ But I know you’re always gonna run/ I am a seed blown by the wind/ I know I’ll never be the same again/ And one day I’ll make roots that go down/ But not while I am here on stoney ground

Walk With Me

Blue eyed man/ I’m your friend/ I wanna be there until the end/ Take that veil from your eyes/ I’m tired of love in disguise/ You ain’t been moving/ You’re just counting sheep/ When you should be going for a walk with me/ Blue eyed man/ I’m just a girl/ With all the love in the whole wide world/ Take that scarf off your mouth/ Speak your heart/ Let it out/ You aint been moving/ Your feet are growing weeds/ And you should be going for a walk with me/ Blue eyed man/ I’m just like you/ Seen my share of pain/ Frustration too/ Take that sheet off your face/ Welcome to a new time and place/ The winds of change are blowing in the breeze/ And you should be going for a walk with me/ Blue eyed man/ Dressed in black/ You’re gonna give me a damn heart attack/ Take those gloves from your hand/ I can’t wait forever for you to understand/ That I’m running late but I thought I’d wait and see/ If you’ll be going for a walk with me.

Dusk

I’ve been thinking about you lately/ I’ve been thinking about you, baby/ Are you happy? Are you safe? Do you smile everyday, like I hope you do?/ I’ve been thinking about you/ I’ve been missing you my darling/ Seems no one sees me like you do/ The more and more that time goes by me/ The more and more I know it’s true/ When you look up at the stars in some far away sky, does your heart ache a little bit like mine?/ And when you see those purple mountains painted in the dusk, does your mind begin to wander to us?/ I’m not saying I’m unhappy/ I’m not saying I’m not strong/ There’s been lovers who have touched me/ It seems no one’s touched me for this long/ When you look up the stars in some far away sky, does your heart ache a little bit like mine?/ And when you see those purple mountains painted in the dusk, does your mind begin to wander to us?

Wanderer

I’ve been up north/ I’ve been down south/ I still don’t know what life is all about/ I’ve seen the cotton fields/ I’ve felt the prairie wind/ I’ve seen the city lights/ I’ve made a lot of friends/Travel by car/ Travel by plane/ Travelled on foot/ I’ve seen a lot of things/ Will I ever find what I’m looking for?/ I’m a wanderer on a desert/ Oh I think I saw home once in someone’s eyes/ Oh but I couldn’t touch it/ I couldn’t taste it/ Because it wasn’t right/ I’m gonna keep on wanderin/ You’re gonna keep flickering that old light/ My ship it may never reach a harbour/ But that’s okay I’m just a wanderer/ I’ve been wandering all my life/ I really love you/ This is the life I chose/ And there’s a part of me nobody really knows/ My heart gets heavy/ My mind starts swimming/ I wanna get in the car and never stop driving/ Oh I think I saw home once in someone’s eyes/ Oh I couldn’t touch it/ I couldln’t taste it/ Because it wasn’t right/ I’m gonna keep on wanderin/ You’re gonna keep on flickering that old light/ My ship may never reach a harbor/ But that’s okay I’ll be a wanderer/ I’ve been wandering all my life/ So many letters drown in the sea/ Hand written letters from you and me/ I sailed away and I don’t know why/ Now all I can do is hang my head and cry/ Oh I think I saw home once in someone’s eyes/ Oh but I couldn’t touch it/ I couldn’t taste it because it wasn’t right/ I’m gonna keep on wandering/ You’re gonna keep on flickering that old light/ My ship may never reach a harbor/ But that’s okay I’ll be a wanderer/ I’ve been wandering all my life.

Delicate Thing

Your mind is something you wear on your face/ You let your thoughts stay open cause you’re unashamed of who you are/ I know that’s hard/ Sure, that’s a noble concept but open doors are subject to too much traffic wearing out their floors/ What I’m trying to say is don’t you give it away/ And don’t forget your heart/ Don’t forget your heart/ Don’t forget your heart/ ‘Cause it’s a delicate thing/ You’re so easy to love and so hard to know/ You play the russian roulette with your own soul/ What I’m trying to say/ Start taking care of yourself/ There’s burn holes in your carpet and on your couch/ From fires someone started and left you to put out/ What I’m trying to say/ Stop blaming yourself/ And don’t forget your heart/ Don’t forget your heart/ No, don’t forget your heart/ ‘Cause it’s a delicate thing/ Why do I always have to spell it out for you?/ When you act so self destructive it breaks my heart in two/ I wanna steal you away/ I wanna steal you away/ Why do I always feel like you’re pushing me away?/ Is it ’cause I can see some deep things that aren’t on display?/ I wanna steal you away and take you some place warm and safe/ And don’t forget your heart/ No, don’t forget your heart/ Don’t forget your heart/ ‘Cause it’s a delicate thing

Even Then

I will love you when the sky turns black/ I’ll be still as the clouds come in/ And I will shelter you from the thunder claps/ Yes, I will love you even then/ I will love you when the flowers die/ As the cold pierces their skin/ I will hold you and sigh and pray and cry/ ‘Til you see them bloom again/ ‘Cause love’s how I’m made and love’s how we’re saved/ And love has brought me this far/ And despite what you’ve heard/ It’s what you deserve/ And I will love you with all of my heart/ Others have gone and left you alone/ Hurt you and broken your heart/ But they were so blind to leave you behind/ And they didn’t know who you are/ ‘Cause love’s how I’m made and love’s how we’re saved/ And love has brought you this far/ And despite what you’ve heard/ It’s what you deserve/ And I will love you with all of my heart.
